New Delhi, July 11 (Inditop.com) The Delhi government has sanctioned just 60 nursery teacher posts to run the 500 nursery classes which it has begun in state-run schools from this academic year.
In an affidavit filed in the Delhi High Court, the government said that it had sanctioned 40,000 posts for teachers, including for junior and senior classes. Of this, only 60 were earmarked for running nursery classes in 500 schools, the directorate of education said in its reply to a petition filed by an NGO.
It admitted that at least 7,000 posts for teachers, including for junior and senior classes, were yet to be filled.
However, the department, while replying to a petition over shortage of school teachers, said it has issued an advertisement for the posts and they would be filled soon.
The NGO, Social Jurists, in its petition said every year the number of students has been increasing manifold but the government has failed to appoint teachers proportionately.
