New Delhi, April 23 (IANS) Vijay Kumar Malhotra, acting president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), Monday hailed the nomination of six times Olympian and sports administrator Randhir Singh as vice president of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC).
Malhotra said Randhir’s appointment is “yet another recognition of India’s growing clout in the comity of nations”.
Randhir, who is also the secretary general of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), has been nominated as ANOC vice president from Asia.
Malhotra said the appointment of Randhir, who was re-elected unanimously as the secretary General of Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) for a record sixth term in October, goes to shows that not only the OCA but also the International Olympic Committee (IOC) wants to make full use of his experience as sports administrator.
Randhir said he is humbled by this honour.
“I have always worked for the interests of the sportspersons and will continue to do so,” he said.
Randhir’s nomination was was at the 18th General assembly of the ANOC last week in Moscow where Shiekh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah was elected president.
