New Delhi, April 26 (IANS) A total of 88 people were abducted and 11 of them killed in six Maoist affected states till April 17 this year, parliament was informed Thursday.
In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Home Affairs Jitendra Singh said the maximum cases were reported in Jharkhand — 31 kidnapped, two murdered — and Chhattisgarh — 29 abducted and three of them killed.
The other incidents were reported from six states — Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, and Odisha.
However, no incidents have been reported from another four Maoist-affected states — Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka — so far till April 17 this year.
According to the minister, 2009 witnessed 380 people being abducted and 93 of them getting killed while 490 were abducted and 113 killed the following year. In 2011, 329 were kidnapped and 64 murdered in all the ten states.
