Chandigarh, July 13 (Inditop.com) Private school bus operators, on strike for the past four days against a government order making speed governors mandatory in all buses, Monday evening called off their stir after the Chandigarh administration formed a committee to look into their demands.
The bus operators’ association agreed to install speed governors by Sep 30, the new deadline set by the administration.
But the administration has said no vehicle more than 15 years old will be allowed to run.
A committee of school representatives, private bus operators and the administration will be formed to reconsider the issue of permit fee that has been hiked from Rs.650 to Rs.25,000.
Over 500 privately owned school buses had gone off the roads Friday, posing problems to parents and school children.
Around 50,000 students, studying in nearly 60 private schools were affected by this strike.
The end of the strike has come as a big relief for parents.
“I am happy that this strike has finally ended. It had badly disturbed our schedules. We want the administration to devise a permanent solution for this,” said Akanksha Sharma, whose has two school-going children.
