Darjeeling, June 1 (IANS) A man accused of fraud escaped from police custody in West Bengal’s Kalimpong town Friday.

Sonam Dorji Bhutia, 33, was arrested May 29 for allegedly cheating several people of Rs.8 lakh in Darjeeling district on the pretext of getting them government jobs.
He had been sent to five days’ police remand at Kalimpong police station.
“Bhutia escaped after hitting a constable on his way to the toilet. We are searching for him,” said a senior police officer here.
