New Delhi, June 1 (IANS) Passenger car market leader Maruti Suzuki Friday reported a decline of its total sales, including exports, by five percent in May at 98,884 units from 104,073 units sold in the corresponding period of last year.
According to the company, total domestic sales in the month under review were down 4.3 percent at 89,478 units from 93,519 units sold in May 2011.
Exports declined by 10.9 percent at 9,406 units from 10,554 units which were shipped out in the corresponding month of 2011.
Segment-wise sales of the hatchback brands like Maruti 800, Alto, A-Star and WagonR fell by 29 percent at 29,895 units from 42,125 units sold in May 2011.
However, compact car segment, which includes brands such as Swift, Estilo and Ritz, grew by 14.7 percent at 24,290 units from 21,185 units sold in May 2011.
Super-compact car Dzire’s sales also grew by 63.8 percent at 17,707 units from 10,812 units. Mid-size segment car SX4 sales were down 85 percent at 405 units from 2,702 units sold in the corresponding period of 2011.
