London, July 14 (DPA) Sunderland made their second signing of the summer when they swooped for Paraguay defender Paulo da Silva for an undisclosed fee.

The 29-year old, who is captain of his country, agreed a three-year deal and joins from Mexican side Toluca.

“I’m delighted to have signed a player of Paulo’s experience,” said manager Steve Bruce Monday.

“He is captain of his country and has played at the highest level in South America, so will bring leadership qualities to our side.”
