Madrid, July 14 (DPA) Valladolid central defender Jose Garcia Calvo has announced his retirement, after three injury-plagued years at the club.
Garcia Calvo, 34, said Monday that he was quitting the game because of the chronic injury to the big toe in his right foot which has plagued him in recent years.
Garcia Calvo started his career at Real Madrid, before joining Valladolid in 1997. He was signed by Atletico Madrid in 2001 but suffered various injuries and returned to Valladolid in 2006.
He played three times for Spain, between 2002 and 2003, before losing his place in the squad due to injury.
