Shanghai, June 11 (IANS) One million people will enter or exit China’s Shanghai city by train and road during the three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday, authorities said.

The projected number is up by about 14 percent from last year’s figure. The trains will take on most of the burden during the break June 22-24.
The Shanghai Railway Bureau, which operates trains for Anhui, Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces, will add about 120 trains to cope with the increased passenger load.
Extra carriages will also be on stand-by, People’s Daily reported Monday.
The city’s long distance buses are set to transport some 120,000 people.
The festival commemorates the death of Chinese hero Qu Yuan, who drowned himself in a river over 2,000 years ago to protest against the corrupt rulers. Legend has it that as people tried to rescue Qu, they beat drums to scare away fish from eating his body.
