Abu Dhabi, July 14 (Inditop.com) The US has hailed the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) support to the people displaced in the ongoing conflict in Pakistan’s restive Swat Valley, WAM news agency has reported.

US Ambassador to the UAE Richard G. Olson, who visited the headquarters of the Red Crescent Authority (RCA) here Sunday, said the UAE’s role in helping out thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Pakistan’s Swat Valley was commendable.

During the meeting, Olson and RCA officials discussed Abu Dhabi’s major relief and humanitarian operations in Pakistan and also the country’s plans for the region and worldwide.

Around two millions of civilians, who were displaced by the military offensive against the Taliban in Swat Valley in Pakistan’s Northwest Frontier Province, are now facing a dire humanitarian situation and need immediate protection and assistance.

A large number of the refugees are said to have fled their homes on foot and have fallen ill from exposure to heat and sun, with children and infants particularly hard hit.

Lack of running water, electricity and scarcity of food are worsening the humanitarian crisis which prompted relief agencies to marshal their resources to provide IDPs with essential relief items.
