New Delhi, July 15 (Inditop.com) Delhi Metro chief E. Sreedharan Wednesday gave marching orders to Vijay Anand, director in charge of the Central Secretariat-Badarpur metro line where an accident Sunday left six people dead.
“Sreedharan Wednesday ordered the repatriation of Vijay Anand, director (projects) of Delhi Metro, who was the director in-charge of the Central Secretariat-Badarpur line of Phase-II which is under construction,” the Delhi Metro Rail Corp (DMRC) said in a statement.
“He will now return to Indian Railways, from where he was deputed to the DMRC. The government has been informed about it,” said a DMRC official.
Anand, an officer of Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE) cadre, joined DMRC in 2001 and had played “important roles in various projects in various capacities”, the official told IANS.
Six people were killed and about 15 injured, one of them critically, when an elevated section of the Delhi Metro track under construction collapsed Sunday, bringing down tonnes of steel and concrete.
Six more people were injured at the very spot the next day when huge cranes trying to remove a steel girder that got inclined Sunday suddenly collapsed.
“Anand was the overall in-charge of elevated sections of DMRC. He was made director (Projects) two years ago. He was the in-charge of Indraprashta-Dwarka line and now was the director-in-charge of the Central Secretariat-Badarpur line,” the official said.
In October, two people were killed and 12 injured when a bridge under construction collapsed in Laxmi Nagar in east Delhi. Anand was in-charge of that line too.
“On Monday, when the cranes toppled, Anand was at the spot supervising the operations,” the officer added.
