New Delhi, July 4 (IANS) Budget carrier SpiceJet Wednesday said that the national capital will become the third base for its five newly-acquired Bombardier Q400 turboprop aircraft after Hyderabad and Chennai.
The company said that the new aircraft will will help to expand its network in north India. In the first phase of north India expansion, the airline said it will connect the national capital to Amritsar, Chandigarh, Indore and Srinagar along other cities to be added on its network in the coming days.
“With our expanded network, SpiceJet would be the only low-cost airline to have such a strong presence across India with 36 destinations domestically,” said Neil Mills, chief executive, SpiceJet.
Last week, SpiceJet acquired five Q400 aircraft from Bombardier in Canada. SpiceJet had placed an order for 15 such aircraft and have now taken delivery of the first 12 aircraft so far.
The Q400 aircraft can accommodate 78 passengers and is widely accepted as the best short-haul plane globally.
