Kolkata, July 5 (IANS) In a veiled attack on the Mamata Banerjee government, union Home Minister P. Chidambaram Thursday noted inter-party political clashes were continuing in West Bengal, and said democracy was not a place for a “bullet for bullet” scenario.
He said while violence was at its peak in the run up to the assembly polls last year, Maoist-related violence had considerably come down after the Trinamool Congress led government came to power.
“But inter-party clashes are still there. 82 people have died in inter-party violence and several have been injured. Democracy is a place for debates and arguments…. democracy is not a place for bullet for bullet,” he said while speaking at the Calcutta Chamber of Commerce here.
