London, July 31 (IANS/RIA Novosti) British No.1 Andy Murray ousted Finland’s Jarkko Nieminen in the second round of the Olympic tournament here Tuesday.
The third seed Murray eased to a 6-2, 6-4 victory, recording 23 winners to Nieminen’s four.
It was the second game under the Centre Court roof for the 25-year-old Scot, as he defeated Switzerland’s Stanislav Wawrinka 6-3, 6-3 in the first round Sunday.
In the third round, Murray will encounter Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus, who toppled 16th seed Richard Gasquet 6-4, 6-4.
Earlier in the women’s draw, Venus Williams encountered weak resistance from the Canadian player, ranked 52 in the world, hitting 32 winners against Wozniak’s seven to race to a 6-1, 6-3 victory.
In the third round, Williams, the Sydney gold medallist, will face seventh seed Angelique Kerber of Germany.
Kerber, 24, swept past Hungarian teenager Timea Babos taking her down in less than an hour 6-1, 6-1.
