New Delhi, July 17 (Inditop.com) Delhi High Court Friday refused to grant any monetary relief to a man who had an accident at an under construction metro site while he was travelling in his car with his family.

The accident occurred May this year when an over 400-tonne crane used for Delhi Metro construction came crashing down on Shashidharan’s car in Jor Bagh area of Lodhi Colony.

Justice Rajeev Sikdhar refused to give any relief to Shashidharan, who had sought a compensation of Rs.20 million for mental trauma and said that the petitioner should file a civil suit to claim compensation.

The court will pass a detailed order Monday whether the petition holds ground.

During the hearing of the case, counsel for Delhi Metro in a slip of tongue said that the Metro has blacklisted Gammon India, the contractor who also had the contract for the Lodhi colony stretch.

But soon the counsel retracted his statement.

The counsel was responding to the allegation levelled by the petitioner alleging the corporation has failed to take action against the erring contractors in the light of the recent incidents.

Shashidharan had contended that safety and security of workers and common people living near the Metro projects was being compromised as the contractors are not punished for such mishaps.
