Kolkata, July 18 (Inditop.com) The West Bengal unit of the Congress Saturday said it will continue the state-wide agitation protesting an attack by supporters of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) on its legislators in Burdwan district last week.
“We have taken a decision in our core committee meeting that Congress would launch a state-wide protest by organising rallies, meetings and sit-in demonstration from August this year,” West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee working president Subrata Mukhopadhyay told reporters.
A 14-member delegation, led by Congress Legislative Party (CLP) chief Manas Bhuinya, was allegedly beaten up by CPI-M supporters in Mongolkote Wednesday.
The team of Congress legislators had gone there to distribute relief material among party supporters whose houses were burnt after the murder of CPI-M district committee member Falguni Mukherjee June 16.
“We’ll stage our protest in front of all district administrative headquarters Aug 5. This apart, we’ll also head for Mongolkote Aug 9 and our party workers from all West Bengal districts would also join us in that rally.
“We’ll also stage a protest in front of the office of Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) in Burdwan district on that day (Aug 9). A protest in front of the state secretariat Writers’ Buildings has also been planned Aug 19,” he said.
To protest the attack, the Congress had called for a dawn-to-dusk strike Friday.
