New Delhi, Aug 15 (IANS) The government proposes to train eight crore people in skill development over the next five years, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced Wednesday.
“This is an ambitious scheme which can be implemented only through a specialised agency of the central government,” he said in his address from the Red Fort on India’s 66th Independence Day.
He said the government was considering setting up a National Skill Development Authority so that skill development programmes across India can be implemented in a coordinated manner.
“We would also need contribution from the private sector and NGOs in this work.”
