Chandigarh, Aug 22 (IANS) A principal of a government school in Patiala was suspended Wednesday by the Punjab government after it came to light that he was drawing the salary of his teacher-wife, who has been in Canada for the past few months.

Gurjinder Singh Grewal was the principal of the Government Senior Secondary School, Bhadson, in Patiala district.
“The Punjab government has asked the district education officer to get a case registered against the principal,” an official spokesman said here Wednesday.
Earlier, Director General of School Education (DGSE) Kahan Singh Pannu had ordered an inquiry against Grewal. The inquiry found that Grewal had allegedly committed financial irregularities.
“It had come to the notice of DGSE that the principal had been drawing the salary of his wife, Malwinder Kaur, who is also a teacher in the same school and has been absent. The inquiry team found that the principal had also withdrawn from the provident fund of his wife, who was in Canada for last few months,” the spokesman added.
