Hyderabad, Aug 30 (IANS) The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Andhra Pradesh assembly Thursday urged the government to take back lands on which industrial units have not come up despite being allotted.
PAC chairman Revuri Prakash Reddy asked the government to reclaim such land as the companies who got them failed to fulfill their promise of setting up units and providing employment to people.
The PAC Thursday visited Medak district near Hyderabad to inquire into allegations that 200 acres allotted by the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corp (APIIC) was lying unused.
The committee members inspected lands allotted to seven industries in Kotlapur, Patancheru and Ramchandrapuram mandals.
Farmers and others alleged that the industries had not fulfilled their promise of paying them compensation and providing them jobs for the acquired land.
Prakash Reddy, a senior legislator of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), assured them they would ensure them justice.
The panel asked the district collector to submit within 15 days details of all the lands allotted by the APIIC to various industries.
The PAC last month visited Visakhapatnam and ordered the district administration to serve notices on the organizations which were allotted government land at cheaper rates.
Prakash Reddy also said that they would suggest the government to appoint a three-member panel of senior officers to look into the irregularities in land allotment as nearly 22,000 acres of government land was misused by various organisations.
The PAC would soon submit to the government an interim report on the irregularities in land allotments.
