Jammu, Sep 1 (IANS) The credibility of the Omar Abdullah led-coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir is at its lowest due to failure on all fronts and rampant corruption, PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said Saturday.

Addressing a public meeting in the border town of Poonch, 250 km from Jammu, the Mufti said: “From day one, when this government (National Conference-Congress coalition) was formed, there is instability and uncertainty in the state.”
The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) leader told a gathering of over 2,000 people that “prevailing anarchy and chaos in the state is a result of the failure of the system”.
To prove his point he referred to the remark of a cabinet committee which reportedly said that trust deficit and governance deficit was the main reason behind the alienation of people during the 2010 summer unrest.
The former chief minister observed: “The situation which was prevailing in the state in 2008 and 2010 still persists because the government has failed to bring transparency and accountability in the system.”
He described the NC-Congress regime as the “worst ever corrupt government in the history of Jammu and Kashmir”.
“Although corruption has sneaked into the government from top to bottom, the anti-graft institutions like State Accountability Commission (SAC) have been deliberately made non-functional by the state government,” he said
He also called the NC-Congress regime a “directionless coalition” which has entered into an alliance “just to grab power”. The Mufti said both the coalition partners speak in different tones on many important issues.
He said there was no Common Minimum Programme (CMP) between the two alliance partners.
Emphasizing on the need to solve the vexed Kashmir problem for lasting peace in the region, he maintained that dialogue was the only way to solve all problems peacefully.
“Political parties of the country have to realize that solution of the Kashmir problem is a must for lasting peace in this region,” he said.
