Islamabad, Sep 7 (IANS) Acknowledging that some progress had been made in talks between India and Pakistan, both sides Friday said that “much more needs to be done” in the future.
The foreign secretaries of both sides, India’s Ranjan Mathai and Pakistan’s Jalil Abbas Jilani, met here for two hours as a prelude to the talks between India’s External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna and his Pakistan counterpart Hina Rabbani Khar here Saturday.
“The discussions were pretty cordial, frank and positive,” ministry of external affairs (MEA) spokesman Syed Akbaruddin told visiting Indian media here Friday.
“Both sides acknowledged that some progress has been made but much more needs to be done,” he said.
Krishna, who is here on a three-day visit to Pakistan, is meeting leaders of various political parties in Pakistan here Friday.
He will be calling on Pakistan Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and President Asif Ali Zardari.
After talks with Khar Saturday, Krishna will stop in Lahore Sunday to meet political, business and civil society leaders before flying back home.
