Patna, Oct 1 (IANS) Ahead of President Pranab Mukherjee’s visit to Bihar, Rashtraparti Bhawan in its communication to the authorities of a university in the state directed them to drop the decades-old honorifics in the invitation card.
Lalit Narayan Mithila University’s official Prabhu Jha said the university received a communication from the Rashtraparti Bhawan liaison officer seeking that the decades-old honorifics, used as a prefix to the President’s name, such as ‘His excellency’ and ‘Honourable’ be dropped.
According to university registrar Vijay Prasad Singh, the communication has also insisted that the standard practice of putting the name tag of the president on the dais should also be dispensed with.
Interestingly, before the communication was recieved the university had distributed inivitation cards with honorifics.
“After the communication, a fresh invitation was distributed as the president wanted,” another official of the university said.
President Mukherjee will attend the Darbhanga-based university’s fourth convocation as chief guest during his visit to Bihar Oct 3.
Mukherjee will also launch a road map on agriculture prepared by the state government during his visit in Patna.
The five-year agriculture road map covers the period 2012-17, an official said.
Mukherjee will visit Bihar on an invitation from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Soon after Mukherjee was elected president, Nitish Kumar had invited him to visit Bihar.
