Dhaka, Oct 9 (IANS) Bangladesh upgraded 17,000 police posts which led to hike in their salary, a move that has prompted 1.2 million government officials now to demand a similar upgrade.

The government upgraded the posts of inspectors and sub-inspectors of police. Other civil service employees want similar upgrades, which could cost the government a lot over the next nine years, reported the Daily Star.
If the demands are met, the government would have to spend by 2020 an estimated Tk 1.23 lakh crore extra on salary payments and benefits.
In August, 17,000 posts of police inspector and sub-inspector were upgraded.
At least Taka 855 crore would be required in nine years to pay for the increases in salary and benefits and in the first year additional Taka 13.10 crore would be needed.
Around 12.20 lakh civil servants now want a similar upgrade of their posts.
