Washington, July 21 (Inditop.com) Hours after India and the US reached agreement over End Use Monitoring of sensitive technology, President Barack Obama Tuesday sent US Congress his first report on the India-US civil nuclear deal inked last October.
“The report covers the period of October 4, 2008, to June 30, 2009. It provides an update on US-India civil nuclear cooperation and developments that relate to India’s nuclear-related activities,” Obama wrote to chairman and ranking members of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.
However, the contents of the report were not made public. Obama wrote to Congressional leaders: “Classified information associated with these issues has been provided in a separate classified annex.”
This is the first report submitted by the US President to the Congress as required by the United States-India Nuclear Cooperation Approval and Non-proliferation Enhancement Act of 2008.
The Act requires President to give several determinations to the Congress on the progress in implementation of the Act and the activities of India with regard to non-proliferation.
