Hyderabad, July 22 (Inditop.com) People in this south Indian city were disappointed as dark clouds blocked the view of the partial solar eclipse Wednesday morning.
The overcast skies proved a dampener for scientists, school children and other enthusiasts who had made arrangements to watch the rare celestial event.
However, people in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati and some other towns watched the partial eclipse. Hundreds gathered at R K Beach in Visakhapatnam to watch the event even as rumours were circulating that a Tsunami would hit the Andhra coast.
Officials at the Visakhapatnam Cyclone Centre, however, said the high tidal waves witnessed in Visakhapatnam and at some other places along the coast were due to the low pressure area.
B.G. Siddharth, director of the B.M. Birla Science Centre in Hyderabad said the partial eclipse was not visible due to the dense clouds. The scientists at the centre were disappointed as were a large number of star-gazers and school children who had come to the Birla Planetarium to watch the eclipse which lasted for nearly one-and-a half hours.
All major temples across the state including Lord Venkateswara temple in Tirupati were shut for the eclipse. They will re-open after purification rituals later in the day. However, special prayers were held at Srikalahasti temple, which was not closed during the event.
