Chennai, Oct 20 (IANS) Top seeded R. Vaishali of Tamil Nadu emerged the champion with a round to spare in the girls section after the 10th and penultimate round of the RAMCO 26th National Under-13 Open and Girls chess championship, here Saturday.
Vaishali beat S Ananya of Karnataka for a tally of 10.0 points, two clear of second placed Tejaswini Sagar of Maharashtra who remained at 8.0 points. Bakshi Rutuja of Maharashtra was in the third place with 7.5 points.
Vaishali, a student of Velmmal School, gets her second National title this year, having won the Under-11 crown at Jamshedpur.two months ago.
In the Open section, NR Visakh of Tamil Nadu, with 9.0 points, kept his lead as his Maharashtra opponent Abhimanyu Puranik spurned draw by perpetual checks and went on to lose the game in 60 moves.
Top seed VR Aravindh Chithambaram kept pace with Visakh as he defeated Manan Rai of Delhi and moved to 8.5 points.
