Chandigarh, Oct 31 (IANS) Punjab Wednesday banned the use of vulgar and provocative music in the state-run transport buses with immediate effect, in a move aimed at saving the passengers from embarrassing moments in buses.
State Transport Minister Ajit Singh Kohar announced the ban and gave formal directions to the department to stop airing vulgar songs.
Kohar said that any bus driver violating the government’s directive would have to face strict departmental action.
He said that surprise checks would be conducted in buses by authorities.
This type of music goes contrary to the rich cultural heritage of the state, he said.
