Lhasa, Nov 1 (IANS) People living in Tibet will get free life and accident insurance cover from the Chinese government, offciails said Thursday.

Under the social security programme, a total of 44 million yuan (about $7 million) will be earmarked each year for the purpose, Xinhua reported.
Families will get up to 50,000 yuan in case of death and injury with an annual premium of 11.5 yuan, to be paid by the government, social security officer Xiao Houguo said.
The premium will also provide an additional health insurance cover of up to 10,000 yuan.
With the increasing mobility of Tibetan residents as a result of economic and social development, accidents and diseases are on the rise, Xiao said.
