Gurgaon, Nov 30 (IANS) Industry groups Friday protested in Industrial Model Township (IMT) Manesar over poor facilities and non-payment of enhanced compensation to farmers whose lands were acquired for developing the IMT in the early 1990s, said a spokesperson.

Manesar Industries Welfare Association (MIWA), in association with the Confederation of Haryana Industries Associations (CHIA) consisting of 25 associations from Haryana, had called a half-day shutdown Friday.
HSIIDC had paid Rs.4 lakh per acre to farmers in early 1990s when the IMT was being developed.
However, the farmers moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which ordered that the compensation be raised to Rs.20 lakh per acre.
The HSIIDC moved the Supreme Court against the high court order, but its plea was dismissed.
Thousands of workers participated in the “Unity and Protest Rally” started from IMT Manesar Club at 2.30 p.m. to the HSIIDC office.
“Our workers are compelled to live in miserable conditions with no housing, no educational institutions for their children, no proper health facilities despite the fact that they pay for all this through their PPF and ESI,” said a spokesperson.
