New Delhi, Dec 22 (IANS) As thousands protested at India Gate Saturday demanding justice for the Delhi gang-rape victim, groups of people assembled outside Safdarjung Hospital where the victim is battling for life to show their solidarity with her.
“Hanging someone is very easy. But they should also be put through the same suffering that they have made the girl go through,” said Deepika Singh, a college student.
“No matter which party is in power, crimes will continue. There is a need to change the system at large. There is a need to develop a larger perspective to the crime and should be seen above politics,” said Praveen Vyas, a writer.
The Resident Doctors Association (RDA) of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) also lead a march from AIIMS to Safdarjung Hospital.
“We are not really too concerned about the severity of the punishment that would be awarded to the rapists. Our plea is to the media to cover the conviction also on the same scale as the rape case,” Dr. Pradeep Kumar said.
The 23-year-old woman was brutally gang-raped Dec 16 in a moving private bus which she boarded in south Delhi along with a male friend. Her friend was also beaten up.
