Kolkata, Dec 26 (IANS) Kolkata experienced its coldest day Wednesday as the minimum temperature dipped to 11.5 degrees Celsius, the Met Office said.

The Meteorological Office has issued a warning for the southern districts of West Bengal that the temperature will fall further.
“The minimum temperature recorded for the day was 11.5 degrees Celsius which is the lowest for the season and is likely to dip further…in the night,” G.C. Debnath of Met Office said.
A cold wave warning has also been issued for the next 48 hours in the southern districts of Burdwan, Purulia and West Midnapore.
“It has been snowing in the northern parts of the country especially Kashmir and a strong wind blowing in from the north and northeast has carried the icy weather here,” added Debnath.
Tea and coffee stalls across city were a flooded as people enjoyed brewing hot beverage to beat the chill.
Pavement dwellers lit firewood to keep themselves warm while the hustle and bustle of the city was at its low as people preferred to stay indoors.
