London, Dec 30 (IANS) The two Australian radio presenters behind the hoax call that may have led to the suicide of Indian-origin nurse Jacintha Saldanha should not escape blame, British lawmaker of Indian ethnicity Keith Vaz has said.
The British Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is yet to decide on criminal charges against Australians Mel Greig and Michael Christian, although a senior Australian police officer has said that was unlikely.
“Whatever is decided by the CPS, the RJs cannot avoid culpability,” Vaz, who is representing Saldanha’s family, was quoted as saying by the Daily Express.
Saldanha, 46, was found hanging from ceiling at her room days after she transferred the two Australians’ call to another nurse at London’s King Edward VII Hospital where the Duchess of Cambridge was being treated for morning sickness.
Earlier, police in Sydney said that no request has been received from the Scotland Yard to interview the radio presenters Greig, 30, and Christian, 25.
“Nor do we expect there to be any requests,” The Sun quoted Sydney Police chief Nick Kaldas as saying.
British police submitted a file to the CPS, but their Australian counterparts believe it would be difficult to find a charge that could be laid against the 2Day FM hosts.
Greig and Christian rang London’s King Edward VII Hospital pretending to be Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles to ferret out private information on Kate’s morning sickness .
