Hyderabad, Dec 31 (IANS) Union Human Resource Development Minister M.M. Pallam Raju Monday asked the universities and colleges to make the campuses safe for women.

Interacting with vice-chancellors of some universities at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) here, he said the vice-chancellors should take necessary steps in this regard.
Raju, who also laid the foundation stone of H.K. Sherwani Centre for Deccan Studies at MANUU, suggested to the heads of the central universities to have regular interaction with each other and with the industry.
Describing Urdu language as the integral part of the Indian culture, he stressed the need to rediscover the richness of the sweet language. He said Urdu is not confined to any particular section of society.
Appreciating MANUU’s pace of development, he expressed hoped that newly established Centre for Deccan Studies will become a centre of excellence in research and academics.
Referring to Sachar Committee findings, he said the literacy rate among Muslims is much below than the national ratio. He advised MANUU to prepare bilingual teachers and start a department of Telugu.
MANUU Vice-Chancellor Mohammad Miyan agreed to set up Telugu department. University Grants Commission chairman Ved Prakash was also present on the occasion.
