Rio de Janeiro, Jan 1 (IANS) Former Flamengo goalkeeper Bruno, currently imprisoned in Belo Horizonte, was officially released by Rio de Janeiro club Flamengo.

The former captain of the side, who was widely tipped to be the Brazil national side’s goalkeeper at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, has remained in custody since July 2010. He faces accusations of participating in the disappearance and death of Elizia Samudio, his former mistress, reports Xinhua.
But whilst his relationship with the club officially drew to a close Sunday, in truth there has been no way back for some time, with the club not paying the player salary for over a year.
The 27-year-old is set to face trial in March 2013 and faces up to 30 years in prison, if found guilty.
In November, Bruno’s best friend, Luiz Henrique Romao, was sentenced to 15 years in prison, for kidnapping and involvement in the death of Samudio.
