Jakarta, March 29 (IANS) Shireenjit Kaur is Miss India Indonesia. She will now represent Indonesia in the Miss India Worldwide contest to be held in Malaysia April 27.
The Miss India Indonesia 2013 beauty pageant, which was organised here earlier this week, witnessed 28 young women vying for the coveted crown. Indian Ambassador to Indonesia Gurjit Singh was the chief guest of the event which aims to build a bridge between Indian and Indonesian communities. His wife Neeru Singh, a civil servant who has worked with the UN, was among the panel of judges.
Miss India Indonesia pageant encourages a healthy competition between beautiful, young, single, ambitious and modern Indian women residing in Indonesia. The event, presented by Alta Moda – The Centre for High Fashion Originals, was organised by Innaz Communique.
Leading Indian designer Anjali Mahtani and Indonesian designer Hengki Kawilarang designed the participants’ attires for this year’s beauty contest. While Kawilarang’s outfits blended Indonesian and Indian elements in the Indonesian round, Mahtani showcased her elegant spring-summer collection in the western gown segment.
Before narrowing down to the top 10 deserving contestants, the winners of the sub-contests were announced for different categories including Miss Beautiful Hair, Miss Beautiful Smile, Miss Graceful, Miss Photogenic and Miss Congeniality.
The winners of all the various national pageants from all over the world come together once a year to compete for the glamorous and prestigious title of Miss India Worldwide. The IFC, New York-USA has been organising the pageant since 1990. It is a common platform for young Indians all over the world.
