New Delhi, April 15 (IANS) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar Monday said that with changing social behaviour, police and other law enforcement agencies need to be more pro-people.

“The policing system plays a vital role in maintaining public order. With changing social behaviour, police and other law enforcement agencies are to meet needs of diverse segments of society. Their approach has to be pro-people, more of participatory and community policing,” Sarkar said at a chief ministers’ meet on administrative reforms here.
He added that expeditious, effective and a fair judicial system is crucial for maintaining public order.
“Efficacy of the judicial system is determined by its capacity to deliver justice to all,” he said.
“There is a need for systemic reforms in policing, legal framework and investigation methods,” the chief minister added.
He agreed with central recommendations on modernisation and reforms of the prison system.
