Gandhinagar, July 28 (Inditop.com) The Gujarat assembly Tuesday passed the Gujarat Control of Organised Crime (GUJCOC) bill, which had been returned three times by the central government.
The GUJCOC bill was passed with only a minor amendment, of adding the word “terrorism” instead of “organised crime” throughout the bill as the Gujarat government does not have a single law exclusively to deal with terrorist activities.
The GUJCOC bill was first passed in the assembly in 2003 and had been subsequently rejected by the central government.
Chief Minister Narendra Modi had announced last month that the bill would be sent without an amendment to the centre for approval once again. It had been rejected by President Pratibha Patil on June 19 asking for three amendments to be included.
The Gujarat government would now send the GUJCOC bill once again to the central government for its approval by the president.
Earlier, the assembly passed the Bombay Prohibition (Gujarat Amendment Act) 2009 bill, aimed at curbing the sale and manufacture of illicit liquor.
