New Delhi, April 30 (IANS) Two people, including a former militant, were arrested for robberies in the capital, police said Tuesday.
Kulvinderjeet, a former militant, and Baljinder Singh, a robber, were arrested on the G.T. Karnal Road near Singhu border in west Delhi Monday night.
“We received information that two desperate criminals would come to Delhi in a white car from G.T. Karnal Road,” said a police officer.
“When police stopped their car, Baljinder fired at them. Police overpowered Baljinder and Kulvinderjeet,” the officer said.
During interrogation, Baljinder said that between 2008 and 2009, he committed a spate of bank robberies in and around Delhi.
Baljinder told police that he was a special police officer with Punjab Police in 1992.
Kulwinderjeet ran a garments business in 1990. He had business dealings with cloth merchant in Srinagar who had connections with militants.
Naim, the cloth merchant in Sringar, was a member of the Ikhwan-ul-Musalmin, a Kashmiri terrorist organisation, according to police.
In 1995, Naim had planned to execute bomb blasts in Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan. He motivated Kulwinderjeet to become a militant.
