Just when you thought the Galaxy S4 with its Rs 41,500 price tag was way out of your reach, Samsung has announced a watered down version of the phone simply called the Galaxy Core. The phone, which is targeted at the low and mid range market has a few of the bells and whistles found in its elder, more evolved brethren – the S4 however in most other areas it makes heavy compromises.
The device runs on Android 4.1 and features a 4.3 inch screen offering a resolution of 480 X 800 pixels, 1.2 GHZ dual core processor, 1 GB of RAM along with 8 GB of internal storage. Its back camera can take pictures at 5 mega pixels while the front camera is only VGA capable. These configuration options are a far cry from the S4’s 5 inch screen running 1920 X 1080 pixels, 8-core processor, 2 GB RAM and Android 4.2.2 operating system. The Core is also only capable of 3G connectivity while the S4 can utilize 4G LTE options as well.
However there are a few saving graces that the phone offers which can make it a lucrative buy. For instance, while the phone lacks 4G connectivity buyers can purchase a dual SIM version which will allow you more options to exploit.
As far as Samsung’s new magical gesture features go, the Core does offer a few of them. For instance the Smart Stay feature will dim the screen when a user is looking away from the phone, while Smart Alert can inform the user about missed calls when the phone is picked up, finally the Motion UI interface will activate common features such as refresh and mute with simple hand gestures.
With the Core, Samsung is no doubt aiming at deeper market penetration, which will take it one step closer to its goals of total, abject world domination. Whether or not the phone will become a success remains to be seen, however few can resist having something so close to the awesome S4 at a cost which will no doubt be very attractive. While its official price remains to be disclosed, reliable sources are betting it will be in the Rs 18,000 bracket. Stay tuned for more info on the Galaxy Core.
