Lucknow, July 29 (Inditop.com) A dismissed Uttar Pradesh police sub-nspector, one of the 11 suspects in a government engineer’s murder in December last year, was Wednesday sent to jail for interrogation till Aug 2.
A court in Auraiya district ordered sub-inspector Hoshiar Singh’s police remand after days of his judicial custody came toan end.
“We finally managed to get Singh on remand, who was in judicial custody,” Additional Superintendent of Police Rajendra Kumar told IANS.
Public Works Department engineer Manoj Gupta was murdered allegedly by ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) legislator Shekhar Tiwari Dec 24 after he refused to give donation for Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati’s Jan 15 birthday celebration.
Gupta was beaten to death in a government guest house in Auraiya district. Singh, said to be close to Tiwari, was the officer in charge of Diviyapur police station in the vicinity of the murder spot.
Tiwari had taken the fatally injured Gupta to the police station. Police two hours later took him to a hospital where he was declared dead.
Eleven accused, including Tiwari, have been arrested.
Police failed to get Singh’s remand July 25 when he was arrested after remaining absconding for seven months.
On May 12, the Allahabad High Court had transferred the murder trial from the Auraiya district court to a Lucknow sessions court and ordered the trial to be completed within six months.
