Ranchi, July 30 (Inditop.com) Jharkhand governor K. Sankaranarayanan Thursday expressed dissatisfaction over the pace of development work and implementation of government schemes in the state.
“The implementation part of government schemes is poor,” he told reporters in his first media interaction, after being sworn in July 26.
The governor said officials have been asked to ensure the delivery of food grains to fair price shops in all districts by Aug 5, while village grain banks would be made functional by the end of August.
He said he was also dissatisfied with the implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) in Jharkhand. “Only 27 percent have been covered under NREGS. The various district administrations have been directed to ensure that employment, for at least 60 days, is provided to all eligible, by the end of October.”
Sankaranarayanan said 11 districts have been declared as drought hit, and families here, coming under the below poverty level (BPL) would be provided free rations.
On the Maoist issue, he said it was not the concern of a single state only. “The Maoist issue is also a political problem and development can address the issue,” he said.
The governor also indicated that the elections would be held soon in the state. “My aim is to ensure free and fair elections in the state and focus on the poor,” he said.
Jharkhand has been under president’s rule since Jan 19.
