Montevideo, May 31 (IANS) Uruguayan and Liverpool forward Luis Suarez says he wants to leave the English Premier League following the overwhelming amount of bad press he has generated since biting a rival during a match in late April.
“They treated me bad in England, I had a bad time, I suffered a lot, no one defended me. I know I made mistakes and I apologised,” Suarez told reporters at a press conference here Thursday, reports Xinhua.
“I have a daughter and I have to worry about her and take her out of there,” he said, adding “I would like to play in another league”.
Suarez shocked fans and players alike when he bit Branislav Ivanovic, Chelsea, on his arm in an April 21 match this year, and was later suspended for 10 matches. He went on to score after the bizarre incident, the second time he has bitten a rival player. He was suspended from seven games in 2010 after biting Otman Bakkal in the Dutch league.
Suarez has also gotten into trouble for other misdemeanours, including making racist slurs against Patrice Evra, Manchester United, in 2011, for which he was suspended for eight games.
“I have moved on from what happened to me with the racist situation and after that I have been feeling bad and uncomfortable,” said Suarez, following a training session with the Uruguayan national football team.
Real Madrid has shown an interest in signing up the troubled player and Tuesday Suarez indicated he might join the Spanish football club, telling a local radio station that “saying no to Real Madrid is always difficult.”
