Brussels, Aug 4 (Xinhua) One of the three men who escaped from a Belgian prison in a helicopter July 23 was arrested by the police here.

Abdelhaq Melloul-Khayari was detained by police in the Brussels municipality of Sint-Jans Molenbeek Monday. He has been returned to Bruges where he will be questioned by an examining magistrate.

Melloul-Khayari is considered to be the most dangerous of the three men that escaped from the Bruges prison, 90 km west of Brussels. The 41-year-old was serving a lengthy sentence for numerous bank robberies. A few years ago, he managed to escape from Verviers Prison in Liege Province.

The other two fugitives that escaped together with Melloul-Khayari are still on the run. Interpol has issued an orange alert notice with detailed descriptions of the fugitives to police forces around the world, according to VRT news.

The three men reportedly carried out four bank robberies after their escape.
