Kuala Lumpur, Aug 4 (DPA) Malaysian police discovered the body of a marathon runner a day after he failed to return home after finishing the race, news reports said Tuesday.
A police canine unit discovered the body of Gary Leon Robert, 22, sprawled in a pedestrian tunnel at a stadium in Selangor state early Monday, police were quoted as saying by the New Straits Times newspaper.
Robert had reportedly completed the marathon Sunday morning but fainted at the finish line in the stadium.
The victim was last seen leaving the medical treatment hall later Sunday, district deputy police chief M Chandra said.
After he failed to return home, the victim’s family lodged a missing person’s report.
Police said Robert’s body was found lying on his back, still in running attire.
“There were also cuts on his chin and lips, believed to be sustained from a fall,” Chandra said.
He said there were no signs of foul play, adding that police were investigating the cause of death.
