New Delhi, July 24 (IANS) Three people who posed as Bollywood film makers and cheated hotel owners as well as struggling actors by promising them roles in their films were arrested here, police said Wednesday.
Madan Sharma, 28, Dinesh Arora, 27, and Naushad, 22, were arrested Monday following a tip-off from a hotel owner in Delhi’s commercial hub Connaught Place, police said.
According to police, the accused would stay in premium hotels and pose as film producers and directors looking for actors for their upcoming project.
“They would hold auditions in these hotels and would ask the candidates to submit their wallets, mobiles and other valuables and wait for the audition to start,” said a police officer.
They would then ask the hotel to hire a cab and flee, leaving the aspiring actors waiting, police said.
The gang was involved in over 12 such incidents of cheating all over the country, said police.
According to the Delhi complainant, the accused booked around 15 rooms in the hotel between July 7-17 in the name of Kapoor Production House, Mumbai, and claimed that celebrities like singer Mika Singh and actors Raj Babbar and Anupam Kher would be staying in the hotel with them.
But the hotel owner got suspicious and informed us, police said.
