Chennai, Aug 6 (Inditop.com) The race track at Sriperumbudur received a clean chit to conduct FIM Petronas Asian Road Racing championship round four Sept 6.

B. Gunardi, Vice-President, Asian Motorcycle Union (UAM), inspected the venue Thursday and gave the green signal.

Gunardi visited the track this morning and suggested a few improvements with regard to safety by way of a gravel trap at three corners.

He said: “I have advised the MMSC (Madras Motor Sports Club) to put in three gravel traps at the three corners. It’s a wonderful and exciting track which has the potential, with minor upgrades, to host other international bike races.”

Also present on the occasion was Ron Hogg of Two Wheels Motor Racing, Malaysia, the promoters of the series and he finalized arrangements for the Chennai leg of the championship.

“We are delighted to get the green signal from the UAM to host the round at Chennai and we looking forward to bringing some top class racing action to India after a gap of 12 years,” Hogg said.

Vicky Chandhok, Vice-president, MMSC and chairman of FMSCI Racing Committee, said: “I am absolutely delighted to get the go ahead from Mr Gunardi after his detailed inspection of the track and it validates what we have been saying for many years that we have an excellent racing facility which is capable of hosting international races.”

The bikes that will be seen in action at the September event include 600cc Superspot and Underbone 115 that will be ridden by some of the best riders of Asia and also India.

To be held concurrently is the UAM Asia Cup of Nations open to single-make 125cc Honda Stunner bikes with 20 countries participating.
