Abu Dhabi, Sep 1 (IANS/WAM) A new Land Transport Act has come into effect in the United Arab Emirates'(UAE) in coordination with federal and local authorities.
Under the new law, which sets the rules of carrying passengers and goods between the UAE and other countries, no land transport business maybe practiced without getting a license from the National Transport Authority (NTA).
The license applicant must be a UAE citizen and the transport vehicle should be equipped with safety gear and should satisfy all technical conditions stipulated by the authority.
“The implementation of the law aims to keep up with the economic growth of the UAE. The team in charge is trying to overcome any challenges that may arise during the implementation of the law,” said Abdullah bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi, minister for Public Works and chairman of NTA.
“It will also promote its benefits for streamlining customer service.”
The law will be implemented in phases, the first of which has to do with the licensing and registering transport companies while the final phase will be about registering trucks at border entry points, he added.
