Tripoli, Sep 2 (IANS) Egypt’s consul in the Libyan capital of Tripoli was attacked Monday by a group of unidentified militants, the Egyptian embassy said.
The embassy said the gunmen forced the consul out of his car at gunpoint while he was going for shopping in Andalus district of the city, Xinhua reported.
The Egyptian diplomat was robbed of his car and was slightly injured. He was later admitted to a hospital for treatment.
The embassy said that security forces later found the car in Tripoli’s Kashlaf area.
Last week, some unidentified men attempted to steal a parked car of Egypt’s deputy consul outside a hotel in Tripoli.
