Chandigarh, Sep 11 (IANS) Poor people belonging to the general category and upper castes will get the benefit of reservation in government jobs and educational institutions in Haryana, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced Wednesday.

“People belonging to general category who are economically weaker and are not getting any kind of benefit of reservation would also be given the benefit of reservation,” Hooda told the state assembly.
He said Brahmins, Rajputs, Khatris, Punjabis and Mahajans would get the benefit of reservation being given to the other weaker sections.
The issue of reservation was raised by Congress legislator Venod Sharma.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala told the assembly that the Haryana Backward Classes Commission has recommended to give at least 10 percent reservation to financially weaker people belonging to general category in its 4th report submitted December last year.
He said that the benefit of reservation would only be given to financially weaker sections of general category as people belonging to the Scheduled Castes, backward classes and special backward classes were already getting the benefit of reservation.
