Bhavnagar (Gujarat), Aug 8 (Inditop.com) Two people died and three others were reported missing when a heavy duty truck carrying 17 labourers fell into a river after a bridge over which the vehicle was passing collapsed in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar district Saturday, police said.
The accident occurred near Salaja village, about 55 km from Bhavnagar.
“There are two labourers dead and efforts are underway to locate three more as the truck fell straight into the river with the falling bridge. The other 12 labourers onboard the truck have been rescued from the river by the villagers who reached the spot immediately after the accident,” an official of the Bhavnagar district police said.
He said that the truck was proceeding from Mundhra port to Pipavav port. The bridge was reported to have been bearing heavy traffic load from various ports for many years.
The injured have been taken for treatment to a hospital in Bhavnagar, he added.
